In the fall of 2019 I took a fantastic class at NYU called Traditional Card Game Literacy. Court, designed for that class, is the first game I’ve designed for a deck of cards. For the most part card games are the result of layers and layers of house rules piled on top of each other. Card games are weird and players expect that, which gives a game designer a lot of freedom to keep weirdness in their games.
